Frenzy at 2010 Regional Presidents Cup
5/31/2010—The U15G Frenzy traveled to Albany, NY for the regional tournament with 12 players after another injury from the state championships game put one more player on the sideline. Frenzy played all their spring games without the service of a regular goalkeeper. Our midfielder volunteered to be in goal and got us through the state championships.
In our first game against Massachusetts #1, we were tied at 0-0 at the half. In the second half, one of our back four got injured and had to come out of the game. She did go back in later after watching her teammates struggle. With the heat, our players just ran out of gas and we lost the game 0-4.
We came back in the afternoon and played against Massachusetts #2. Again in the heat, with 12 players, we knew that this was a must win game, but we ended up with a 1-1 tie. We had chances but just couldn’t find the net for the second time.
There was still hope but the Frenzy would need help from Massachusetts #1. We needed to win the third game against Virginia by 3-0 and Massachusetts #1 must beat Massachusetts #2 by 4-0. At the end of the game against Virginia, the Frenzy made sure that they won with a 6-0 win.
Massachusetts #1 beat Massachusetts #2 by 2-1 and it was not enough for the Frenzy. Frenzy fell short to reach the finals on goal differential. Massachusetts #1 claimed the regional championships with a 1-0 win over Massachusetts #2.
It was a great ride for the Frenzy. This team had gone a great deal since U13 and it was nice to see the players winning state championships and get to experience regionals. They knew how close they came to play in the regional championships game and a chance to play in the national championships. It just wasn’t meant to be and they will use this experience to motivate them to try again next year.
Well done, girls and I am very proud to be your coach.
