U15G Barca captured first championships at Columbia Fall Classic

11/21/2011—The U15G Barca traveled to Columbia, MD for the Columbia Fall Classic this past weekend. It was the first tournament for the team after getting back together from the high school soccer season. On Saturday, Barca got off to a fantastic start earning a 2-0 win over Seneca Angles (MD). They showed up ready to play later that afternoon and fought hard against Freedom Hurricanes (MD) coming away with a 2-1 win. After a successful day on Saturday team Barca enjoyed team bonding and prepared for an early morning game on Sunday. Playing with a new determination and attitude Barca showed up against a strong MSI Crush (MD) team and played their best game of the tournament. Fighting for every 50/50 ball down to the whistle they came away with a 0-0 tie.

With the early morning result Barca controlled their destiny. A win or tie would crown them tournament champions. The Barca stormed the Thunder SC (MD) right from the first whistle, playing with that newly found determination and tenacity. They held patient while continuously attacking the Thunder SC and it paid off late in the second half with a picture perfect goal. A through ball from the midfield played perfectly to a striker who took the ball with speed to the end line and slotted a cross to the back post where the left flank midfielder came streaking through to pound the ball into the back of the net. The rather new group of girls came together for the first time this fall and could not have made their parents and coaches more proud. The new determination and new mentality of fighting for every ball and playing strong for every minute of the game earned them the title of tournament champions!

Congratulations to the players, parents and coaches!
